Director Craig Leishman established Boutique in February 2007 with a vision of providing cost effective and solution orientated secretarial services. Boutique remains focused on just that. It has grown rapidly as a result of the specialist expertise and enthusiasm Craig brings to the business.

Craig practiced law in the property field for fifteen years after graduating with an LLB and BComm (accounting major) from Otago University. Whilst practicing law Craig became involved with the Unit Titles Act and began acting as a Body Corporate secretary. A Diploma in Property (valuation) was obtained in 1997 to complement the law and accounting degrees.

After a period of involvement in the timber and bloodstock industries Craig returned to the secretarial role after being invited by NZ's largest Body Corporate secretary to manage their problem Body Corporates and in particular leaky buildings. Complexes suffering from moisture ingress remain a major portion of the Boutique portfolio.

Craig enjoys the challenges of the industry and puts the impressive growth achievements of Boutique down to the service ethics both he and the team bring to their roles.

There was an article I read at the week-end by Rod Thomas Senior Law Lecturer AUT Auckland, about the confusion around the Transitional rules in the Latest Property Council newsletter He finished up: “This confusion provides a strong incentive for a body corporate to agree to implement the provisions of the new Act, by adopting the adoption measures set out in S220. If this does not occur, and in the interim period the wrong administrative procedures are adopted, this may result in committee members becoming personally liable for acts such as authorising payments, raising levies, or entering into commercial obligations which are ultimately shown to have been invalid.” This supports our view that the BC should adopt the new Act and run the meeting in terms of the governance provisions if for no other reason than risk minimisation and certainty
